Aeronautical Engineering Explained

Rugby High hosts a  talk by Jennifer Glover of  the IMechE

Last week we had the opportunity to attend a talk on engineering hosted by the school. Jennifer Glover came to our school last Tuesday evening to talk about her experience in the aeronautical industry. A number of people attended, ranging from year 7s to year 13s and also family members and members of the public. Jennifer is part of the women’s engineering society, which is celebrating its 100th year, so as well as talking to the audience about her experience, she talked to us about her female role models and how women are greatly outnumbered in the engineering world. She is currently a PhD student at Loughborough University and is working on  soundproofing jet engines. Jennifer told us her story from her A-levels to where she is at now - Classics was one of her A Level choices and she said it was a common point of interest during interviews. There were some interesting questions from the audience and we had the opportunity to look at some of her work from her PhD. I think she is a good role model for anyone who wants to become an engineer. Thank you to Mrs Mighall and Dr Fletcher and the school for organising it.
