Police pay a visit to our Y13 Sociology students

Year 13 Sociology: Police Visit

Year 13 Sociology, who are currently studying Crime and Deviance, had the amazing opportunity to gain an insight into the UK’s criminal justice system, when two police officers visited the school earlier this term. They explained to the group their past and current roles in the police force, and gave their opinions on whether the rate of crime is rising in the UK, what factors/characteristics tend to lead a person to commit crime, and how the police force acts efficiently in order to prevent crime by targeting particular ‘hot spot’ areas around the UK.  The students were able to apply their theoretical knowledge of explanations of crime to the real world through examples that the officers shared with them.
