The Great European Bakeoff
In celebration of European Day of Languages
Last Thursday was the European Day of Languages and to celebrate, the languages department organised the third annual Great European Bake Off. Over 40 entrants took part from various year groups, making it the largest competition so far. It was truly a sight to behold; there was a huge variety of cakes, reflecting different cultures, environments and people from across the continent.
The competition was judged by Ms Holland and Madame Grimes based on the quality of baking and the link to languages. All participants were praised on their creativity and skill, and after much deliberation the winners were announced. 3rd place was awarded to Alexandra Padfield in 7S for her European Union Flower Field. 2nd place went to Charlotte Adams in 8H for her Spaghetti Bolognaise cake. In 1st was Amelia Forbes in 9G for her Dutchman/woman creation! There was also a special commendation for James Bach in 13A for his traditional French cake.
House points were awarded to everyone who took part, with bonus points given to the winners. Amelia also received the highly coveted Great European Bake Off mug. The MFL department would like to say thank you and well done to everyone who participated in the competition.
