News from Mr Grady

Hello everyone,
And welcome back to RHS for the academic year of 2026-27.
It has been a very calm and productive start to the term, and I hope that as we enter our third week of the term it is starting to feel “back to normal” for years 8-11 and 13, and well and truly settled for our new year 7 and 12 students.
As we’ve shared widely in the press and on our own social media, our A-Level and GCSE results were superb this year. Our GCSE results, in particular, some of our best ever, which is wonderful for our students’ efforts and the staff and families that supported them! Well done to all of us!
Over the year, (if you’re new to the newsletter,) I try to share school information, as well as thoughtful reflections at different times in the year that might support students and families through their RHS experience. Or, on occasion, something whimsical. It depends very much on what’s going on in our school calendar, and whether the creative muse has come upon me.
This week I celebrated my 50th Birthday (I may have mentioned this once or twice to students and colleagues. As the shy and retiring personality that I am, I didn’t want any kind of fuss.) But reaching a half century really does provoke some introspection, and perhaps means that I am now old enough to start dealing in “wisdom” rather than “advice.” And as I sat at the computer, fingers poised over the keyboard to dispense pearls of wisdom, I have to say that I came up pretty short…
Over the years, the variety of advice, wisdom, insight and guidance I’ve had from a variety of people has coalesced into a pretty well tried and tested “Grady approach to just getting on.” And so I’ll share it with you - you may find it useful.
Firstly: Just be nice to everyone. Kindness, care and respect costs nothing, and makes the world a better place.
Secondly: Turn up on time, prepared with everything you need for the meeting/ day/ lesson/ performance.
And thirdly: Never forget to be able to laugh at yourself. You might be missing out on the joke of the century.
As you can see - Philosophical great wisdom it is not, but it has served me well this last half century, and I shall be deploying it liberally in the coming half century.
Once again - welcome back, students, colleagues and families to another year here at RHS. It will be different to the last, as they always are, but it will be no less successful.
