News from Mr Grady

Friday 30th January 2026

Hello everyone,

I wrote last time in anticipation of the school production.  Having now seen it, I can only say: Wow.

The sophisticated control and accuracy of the performances, with an incredible grasp of comedic timing and delivery, the way the ensemble worked so well as one, and the maturity of the performances was a joy to behold.

The skilful blend of music, singing, movement, and accurately observed character work was a testament to the skills of our students, and the artful direction of the performing arts staff.

This spectacle was then followed by the talent show organised by our year 13 students – where students from years 7-13 showed us just what talent they had, singing, dancing, playing and performing with such confidence and assurance.

For my fellow judges, Mr Koe, Mrs D’Souza and myself, it was a pleasure to spend our lunchtime watching and scoring (and what a difficult job that was!)

As we move into the last two weeks of half-term, we will be welcoming “Challenge Partners” into school – an annual review where colleagues from different schools across the country visit RHS to review our curriculum, its delivery and the opportunities we offer.  It is a wonderful way of professionals collaborating and discussing the best practice, celebrating and validating what we do well and discussing how we can highlight areas for further work and improvement.  At RHS, we are not complacent and welcome collaborative work with colleagues to discuss how we can continue to improve the provision for our students and community.

We will, of course, share their findings once they have written their report.

Have a wonderful weekend when it arrives,

Stay safe and well everyone!

Best wishes,
Mr Grady

Marking Holocaust Memorial Day

This Tuesday was Holocaust Memorial Day, with the theme of 'Bridging Generations'; as a call-to-action and a reminder that the responsibility of remembrance doesn't end with the survivors - it lives on through their children, their grandchildren and through all of us. This theme encourages us all to engage actively with the past – to listen, to learn and to carry those lessons forward. By doing so, we build a bridge between memory and action, between history and hope for the future.

As the years pass, we’re growing more distant in time from the Holocaust and from the other, more recent genocides that are commemorated on HMD. That distance brings a risk – memory fades and the sharp reality of what happened becomes blurred, abstract or even questioned. 'Bridging Generations' highlights the crucial role of the next generation in preserving the memory of the Holocaust and carrying it forward.

In school, we have been marking HMD with students in Year 9, considering memorial plans and creating a range of art and poetry. Their work is on display in the Reception area, so others can also reflect on Holocaust Memorial Day.

You're invited to our Community Iftar

Save the date - Friday 6th March, 5pm - 8pm for our Community Iftar!

We are thrilled to invite our students and their families to our Community Iftar, an evening dedicated to togetherness and reflection. This is a wonderful opportunity to strengthen connections within our school community, meet new people and enjoy a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

This event has been thoughtfully planned by our Sixth Form students as a way to bring people together and celebrate the spirit of sharing, understanding and belonging. This event is free, and everyone in the RHS community is welcome - we would love to see as many of you there as possible!

The evening will include:

  • Short student-led presentations
  • An opportunity to donate to charity – Our Charity Prefects have chosen Human Appeal (Emergency Appeal for Sudan) for those who would like to contribute.
  • A buffet-style dinner – We will ask everyone to contribute to food for the evening (more information in due course)
  • Henna Stall
  • Collective Prayer spaces will be available

Our Community Iftar event was a wonderful evening last year – we hope you will join us for this year's event.

Year 10 Drama Students showcase their skills

Our Year 10 drama students recently took part in a local Drama Showcase at Rugby Free Secondary School. Alice Page, (10S), tells us more about the experience! “On Monday 12th January, all the Year 10 GCSE drama students went to Rugby Free Secondary School to perform our devised pieces in front of drama students from Rugby Free, Harris, and Arnold Lodge and to watch theirs."

"After working on our pieces for over a month, we were finally ready to show them! At first, it was terrifying to stand up in front of people we didn't know and perform, but as we watched their incredible pieces, we became more confident. In the end, we got so many positive comments from the experience and it really helped grow our confidence for our next performing experience.”

Artificial Intelligence

Our school cybersecurity ambassadors are raising awareness about AI and its use and would like to share the following information.

Artificial intelligence can be very helpful, but it also comes with risks if it is not used carefully. AI systems can spread false information, copy human work without permission, or be used to create scams, deepfakes, and fake messages that are hard to detect. When people rely too much on AI, they may stop thinking critically or trusting real sources. AI can also collect and misuse personal data if privacy is not protected. To stay safe, it’s important to question what AI produces, avoid sharing personal information, and use AI tools responsibly. Understanding the dangers of AI helps people use technology wisely and avoid being misled or harmed.

Robert Burns
Up In The Morning Early

Cauld blaws the wind frae east to west,
The drift is driving sairly;
Sae loud and shrill’s I hear the blast,
I’m sure it’s winter fairly.

Up in the morning’s no' for me,
Up in the morning early;
When a’ the hills are covered wi’ snaw,
I’m sure its winter fairly.

The birds sit chittering in the thorn,
A’ day they fare but sparely;
And lang’s the night frae e’en to morn,
I’m sure it’s winter fairly.

Up in the morning’s no' for me,
Up in the morning early;
When a’ the hills are covered wi’ snaw,
I’m sure its winter fairly.
