Message from Mr Grady
15th September 2022
Hello Everyone,
Normally my first newsletter and communications with staff, students and parents in the first couple of weeks of term would be a wealth of comments about our excitement for the new term, stories of eager year 7’s and joining year 12 students, and of course a real focus on our ethos of kindness, care and respect and our school vision.
Obviously, the incredibly sad news last Thursday of the death of Queen Elizabeth II meant that the communications we had planned were paused for the period of mourning. Following our minute’s silence last week, and sharing thoughts in assemblies and form times, it seems only right that in our newsletter we commemorate the 70 years of service of Queen Elizabeth, and draw parallels between our head of state, who has demonstrated such dignity, leadership and resilience over the years with the expectation we would have of ourselves and our community.
A quotation I have found particularly striking from Queen Elizabeth II, that I have shared with students in assemblies this week is:
“There are any number of reasons to find fault with each other, with our governments and with other countries.?
But let us not take ourselves too seriously.
None of us has a monopoly of wisdom, and we must always be ready to listen and respect other's points of view.”
I have always maintained that the newsletter would be a light-hearted look at RHS during the week, a chance to reflect and share our experiences, and it will continue to be. However, I cannot help but think, this carefully and beautifully phrased reflection from Queen Elizabeth II, on how best we can all work with each other, is a fine manifesto for the sometimes challenging times we have seen in the past couple of years.
As a reminder, school will be closed on Monday 19th September, with all pupils expected back in school on Tuesday 20th September.
With best wishes for the weekend and the bank holiday,
Mr Grady
