News from Mr Grady
Hello everyone,
I had the best day on Friday 13th May. I can honestly say it could well have been the most joyful day I’ve had in school for about the last two years.
We celebrated with our Year 11 and our Year 13 students all their time here at RHS, we took time to reflect on what has been so wonderful about their time here, about the gains they have made at RHS and because of RHS, but also importantly, what RHS has become because of their contribution as members of our community.
Both celebrations were warm, kind and so positive, and the students were an absolute testament to themselves, their families and the school.
Teachers were swamped by students wanting shirts and year books signed, and to pose for photographs, and there were tears (not just the students) as we celebrated challenges overcome, and took time to revel in the pride we felt about our achievements.
I cannot begin to tell you what a pleasure it was. It was a fine example to Years 7-10 and Year 12 of the aspiration and the ambition of our students, and just what RHS can do for its community.
For our Year 11, obviously, there are another two years of formal schooling, and for the vast majority of them, we’ll see them return to RHS (why wouldn’t you after investing so much time here?)
For our Year 13, it is perhaps a little more bittersweet, as, once we have seen them through their exams, it will really be the end of their time here, and we will be sending them on their way into the next stage of their lives and education, whatever it may be.
I was talking to one Year 13 student, who I remember visiting in her primary school, ahead of joining us 7 years ago, not only reflecting on the fact that I haven’t aged a day, but also discussing, that her initial trepidation was very quickly overwhelmed by the friendships she’d made, the attitude to learning and resilience we had supported her to develop and the academic and personal successes she’d had. Everyone of our students has similar stories, for all the trials and tribulations, and the fact that sometimes we’d not always seen eye-to-eye, the respect for the school, the community, and what we try to achieve every single day came through loudly and clearly.
The staff, and myself wish the Year 11 and 13s every success in their examinations – they’ve worked so hard for them, we are so proud of them, and for those of them moving on, we will miss them greatly. RHS is all the stronger for these students as part of our community, and we thank them for it!
With all best wishes, stay well and safe!
