News from Mr Grady
Hello everyone,
It does feel like some time since I last wrote to you, and indeed a lot can happen in a fortnight! It has left me wondering exactly what I could write about, as there are so many school-based things that are now up and running, that I have wealth of opportunities to choose from. (Alright – “from which to choose” if we’re being picky about grammar.)
Last week we had the first of our Sixth Form Open Evenings, as a chance for Year 11 students to come and see what we offer at RHS, and to encourage them to join us for their A-Level Study. We have the second one of these tonight. It has been a herculean task on behalf of the Sixth Form Team, Mrs Danger and curriculum leaders in organising this, so it could be safe for all to attend, but very much something we felt we had to do!
It has felt like a very long time since we had students and parents in our hall (albeit distanced for safety) and moving around the school, with the very best of what we have to offer on show.
It gave me great pleasure to stand next to Mrs DB and our Senior Student Leadership Team and talk about what a wonderful, warm and kind place RHS is, and what a fantastic opportunity it is to join us for that crucial next step between GCSEs and “the real world.” Visitors were hugely impressed with the passion of our teachers and the presentations they gave, their knowledge, their insight and their understanding of just how to get the very best out of all our students.
But most importantly, students and parents were most vocal about how impressed they were by our own students, who spoke with confident voices, erudite, perceptive and mature, our students were outstanding advocates for everything we do here at RHS.
I cannot tell you what a joy it was to see our school opened up once again, and to welcome our community, and potential students. It felt like very nearly a normal thing happening at a normal time, and goodness me we’ve all needed a bit of that recently.
For those of you coming to this evening’s Open Evening, I hope you have a similar experience. I am so very proud of our staff, students and the RHS vision and ethos, and I look forward to sharing that with all our students tonight and in the coming weeks,
With all best wishes, stay well and safe!
Mr Grady
