News from Mr Grady
17th November 2025
Hello everyone!
In the last week or so, RHS has been abuzz with enterprise. Students have taken part in whole-day workshops exploring business and enterprise concepts with our Head of Economics and Business; Mr Cox, they have been preparing product research, market research and product sampling, as well as beginning early advertising campaigns to ensure that their Winter Fayre stalls and products are as successful as possible, both in terms of consumer satisfaction, and of course the all-important profit margin.
It’s exactly the sort of thing we embrace here at RHS, where students can apply their knowledge from the taught curriculum in a broader context, and it never fails to impress me how creative, innovative and enthusiastic are students are when they get to apply their knowledge and skills to more “real world” situations.
I have lost count of how many groups have approached me to appear in adverts, endorse their products or contribute to their campaigns. Equally the range of products, and variation changes each year, so that I can confidently say that if you’ve been to our Winter Fayre before, you should look forward to coming again, as no two years are the same, and the range of games, products and experiences you will have will be simply wonderful!
It is always a joy to see our students making so much of the opportunities we offer them here at RHS, and I can’t wait to see students, families and colleagues at the Winter Fayre, celebrating the enterprising and innovative work that our students have produced.
Stay well and safe everyone,
Best wishes,
Mr Grady

Vote for Project Prevent in Co-ops
Our school's Project Prevent has been selected as a winner to receive funding from the Co-op local community fund! This will be a minimum of £500 which will go towards funding students attending a Project Prevent event.
However, we could get more funding depending on local voting at Co-op stores! Voting can be done via the Co-op app or in stores. The more votes we get, the more funding we will be awarded, so please vote for us if you can!
You can find out more about Project Prevent here: www.rugbyhighschool.co.uk/projectprevent.

Physics Teacher of the Year Award 2025
Congratulations to Susan Mighall who has been awarded Physics Teacher of the Year Award 2025 by the Institute of Physics. This is in recognition of her work in growing the number of girls taking A level Physics in school and in the wider Midlands through supporting the professional development of Physics teachers. Susan is an outstanding and inspirational member of the Science department and we are proud of her achievement.
Susan Mighall’s lessons in school push students academically but have fun activities interwoven into them; from using a methane rocket to study the conservation of momentum to using a foil wire and magnet to play music. This high challenge, low risk environment, where students are willing to make mistakes and ask questions, has led to excellent results and progression for students in the school, so much so that staff recruitment has been needed to meet the demand for A Level classes.
Susan is keen to emphasise the importance of practical work in underpinning theoretical concepts, and demonstrates this with her commitment to extracurricular projects such as CREST Awards and engineering projects. Congratulations Susan!

Drama trip to London
Our A Level Drama and Theatre Studies students had a day trip to London recently. First, they watched a recording of The National Theatre's rendition of Our Country's Good at the National Theatre Archives, looking for inspiration for their own interpretation of this set text. After a few wrong turns (or our 'adventure' as some kind students called it), having made it half-way to The Globe pub rather than the Theatre) they eventually arrived at the highly impressive Shakespeare's Globe. Thankfully the weather was kind, with blue skies above as they stood in the open air yard to watch Twelfth Night (or What You Will). The production was an absolute sensation! Music, dance and hilarity ensued, with Feste scoffing almost an entire chocolate orange swiped from an audience member and Malvolio's yellow stockings making quite the impression.

“Congress to Campus” Year 13 Politics Trip
On Thursday 6th November, some of the Year 13 Politics class travelled to De Montfort University in order to take part in the annual “Congress to Campus” presentation. This involved two former members of House of Representatives, Mike Ross (a former Democratic congressman from Arkansas) and Jeff Duncan (a former Republican congressman from South Carolina) talking about their experiences in Congress and taking part in a wide-ranging and interesting Q&A. All of the students enjoyed the talk and gained useful insights from the answers.
After the presentation had finished, Mike Ross was kind enough to talk more to the students, pose for a photo and, most impressively of all, sing happy birthday to Mr Marley!

The Land Where The Taffy Birds Grow
Margaret McBride Hoss
There’s a lemondrop monkey that whistles and sings
And marshmallow chickens with sugary wings.
Eating wee gumdrop worms that the mother hen brings.
In the Land Where the Taffy Birds Grow.
The rivers are gold-colored honey so sweet,
And a licorice dog, you are certain to meet.
With a lollipop pig that has caramel feet,
In the Land Where the Taffy Birds Grow.
There’s a chocolate mouse and a peppermint cat,
And a sugarplum cow in a cocoanut hat.
Baking cinnamon cookies, so puffy and fat.
In the Land Where the Taffy Birds Grow.
You’ll see round doughnut stars playing peek-a-boo.
And a big yellow moon smiling at you,
(A gingerbread man told me these things were true)
In the Land Where the Taffy Birds Grow.
