December 2021 Friends Newsletter

Welcome to the Autumn edition.  It's been a really busy term here at Rugby High.

We are trying to return to some sort of normal and have introduced a huge list of lunchtime clubs for all Year Groups, from Artful Maths to Linguistics, Yoga to Coding.

We have moved away from bubbles and have even had a Latin field trip to Bath.  Whilst Parents' Evenings have remained online, we have held two Sixth Form Open Evenings, and 2 Tour and Tea Events for Year 7 & 8 students and their parents.  It is so heartwarming to see parents back in school again and for them to see where their children spend their school day.  Many had not set foot inside the school before.

Foundation Day, a major event in the school calendar, has been moved to the end of the Spring term.  This will hopefully allow more people to attend.  And of course Sixth Form Entertainment will be taking place in the next day or two!

I hope you enjoy reading about some of our former students below.  Please do forward this to other former students.  They too, might like to become a Friend of Rugby High by clicking on this link: Friends of Rugby High

On behalf of us all at Rugby High, I wish you and your families a very peaceful Christmas.

Jane Danger, Communications Manager

Emily Gardiner (nee Miles)

I'm currently on maternity leave with my second daughter, but when I go back to work I am a Lead Business Analyst for a tech consultancy in London. I joined as a Graduate in 2013 and have been there since, my role is to understand and unpick complex systems in large enterprises and help teams to rebuild them in newer technologies with better methodologies.

What I have taken from RHS

Most of my best friends are still the girls I met at Rugby High. They continue to amaze and inspire me every day. They've always encouraged me to chase my dreams and they're always there (albeit virtually most of the time at the moment) for a chat about where to go next!

Catherine Alsworth

I have now been practising Chiropractic for four years, working on the south coast. In September last year I set up my own Chiropractic clinic from home, called Kind Health. Setting up a business during a pandemic was a big risk but the greatest things in our lives are often on the other side of fear and it turned out to be the best thing I ever did!

What I have taken from RHS

Rugby High gave me the courage to know that I was capable of anything that I put my mind to. I grew up surrounded by strong and empowering females who all wanted to work hard and positively change the world around them. For that upbringing I am forever grateful.

Amy Clement

I am currently working as an Assistant Stage Manager on the UK & Ireland Tour of Disney's The Lion King!

I attended the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama  and finished my degree in 2015.

My first professional job was 3 weeks as Assistant Stage Manager on a version of Sweeney Todd. Then I went on to do a year at the English National Opera where I had the opportunity to work on some epic operas such as La Boheme and Akhnaten.

My experience at RHS has given me …

Work ethic, for sure! When I moved to Rugby High I was amazed at how hard everyone worked and in my time there I went from an average student to someone who came out with A's at A Level, it's a great place to be. I'd say my Drama and Theatre Studies A Level definitely influenced my decision to have a career in Theatre, it opened my eyes to what Theatre is all about.

Becky Morley

I am currently working as a ‘Strategy Manager’, which is a job title that doesn’t mean much to most people! In reality I work for the Management Board, trying to empower them to make the best decisions for the company by helping determine the strategy, write their goals for the next year, or do analysis on opportunities. A lot of my job is looking at the future, thinking about what we want to achieve, and how we are going to get there.

What I have taken from RHS

I don’t think I realised this at the time, but Rugby High gifted me with the mindset of ‘I can do anything I set my mind to’ - something I am eternally grateful for. Rugby High also provided me with my all time best friends, who I know I will have in my life forever.
