News from Mr Grady
Hello Everyone!
I was reminded by a colleague just before we broke up that the last Thursday of half term is traditionally the Year 8 trip to The Black Country Museum - something I've now attended at least 8 times. Those of us who have been going on a yearly basis all had a slightly nostalgic back and forth with each other, thinking lovingly of the traditional Fish and Chip Shop, and in my case slightly relieved that for this year at least, I don't have to go down the mine.
As we move into the summer term, I suspect we'll all have those moments of "normally we'd be..." That slight nostalgia for the nice things we usually get up to, both the traditional things and the yearly work-based things.
I've found that thinking about the things I would have been doing has a pleasant melancholic edge, as long as I also think about the positive things I'm managing to make out of this situation.
I've spoken to my parents more (via Facetime), and I've spent more time with my wife sitting peacefully and not rushing around "doing things on our list".
Of course, there are also the annoying things, such as the trips planned but now cancelled. In my case, I was going to be my oldest friend's best man for his wedding, now moved to later in the year, so as that day came and went over the half term, there was a faint hint of irritation at the continued changes we are having to make and adapt to.
But, for now, as I write this, I think very pleasingly about the fun I've had down the years at The Black Country Museum, the lovely colleagues I've shared the day with, and all the students who have proven to me that they're perfectly happy down the mine (it's just me and my irrational fear of being underground that's the problem). I look forward to jabbering with barely contained nervousness when hopefully we get to visit it again!
Best wishes, and I hope everyone is well and safe!
