News from Mr Grady
Hello everyone. I hope that the half term break did exactly what it should have done: Given a chance for a rest and a recharge ahead of the Christmas-side of this term.
We finished last half term on a real high, the whole school out on the field, completing the Race for Life. This is now a biannual event, so neither Years 7 or 8 had had chance to have a go, nor our joiners in Year 12 or 13. Despite the rain, and underfoot conditions we stuck at it, and in true RHS fashion over 800 students and staff completed the five-kilometre course, the fastest in just under 24 minutes!
What struck me forcefully as I panted around the course in my pink vest was the good-humour and camaraderie of everyone taking part. It didn’t matter about the speed or how athletic we were it was the fact that we were all together taking part in a shared activity for the benefit of others. No wonder we were all having such a good time.
When we talk about the ethos of Rugby High School, it is perhaps sometimes difficult to imagine what it looks like in practice. I can assure you, that had you seen us running, jogging and walking in what at times felt like driving rain, you would have understood what it was to be a member of our community. It was wonderful to see so many students finish the course, but then continue supporting those students and staff yet to finish.
As we move onwards through the term, as the going gets a little more difficult underfoot, I’d remind everyone that it was as a community that we achieved such a wonderful thing in completing the Race for Life. There may have been someone coming first or someone bringing up the rear, but actually what matters is that we did it together, and, as a result achieved something more than anyone of us could have managed on our own.
Best wishes,
Mr Grady
