Science

Our aim is to give each girl an appreciation, knowledge and understanding of scientific facts, history, methods and applications and to develop her practical and investigative skills. Whether she proceeds to advanced studies or finishes her formal Science training at GCSE she should have a broad, informed foundation for the future.

All girls are taught balanced science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics and How Science Works) from Years 7 to 9. In Years 10 and 11, girls have a choice between GCSE Combined Science or Triple Sciences; GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Uptake of Biology, Chemistry and Physics at A Level is very high. Science qualifications can lead to a wide range of career pathways including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Biochemistry as well as number of vocational courses including Medicine, Veterinary Science, Medical Physics and Engineering.

We have 8 well equipped Science Laboratories which are supported by 3 prep rooms.

We run a wide range of extra-curricular activities including SLUG club for Years 7-13 and a Forensic Science club for Years 7 and 8. In addition we run bronze, Silver and Gold CREST projects. Rugby High has been very successful both regionally and nationally in a number of science competitions including CREST, Big Bang and the Engineering Scheme.
