Barriers to Learning
The principal barriers to learning faced by pupil premium students are:
- low prior attainment relative to the rest of the cohort resulting in a lack of confidence and a reluctance to engage fully in case engagement does not bring success
- complex emotional problems arising from their domestic circumstances which inhibit their ability to learn effectively
- reduced access to technology, the internet, books and cultural resources because of poverty
- difficulty in attending school regularly because of the cost of school transport.
Our strategy is designed to help pupil premium students overcome these barriers and make similar progress to their peers.
